Welcome to Remarkable Symposium 2011. The organising committee look forward to hosting quilters, patchworkers and textile artists from around the world at the 14th National Patchwork and Quilting Symposium in Queenstown 18th to 23rd April 2011. 
What Is a Symposium Our Symposium will involve up to 1500 New Zealand and overseas participants attending a wide range of classes and workshops, lectures, merchants’ markets and exhibitions, among other activities. The 50 or so classes a day, for five days are tutored by well known overseas and national tutors. Lectures are run in the lunch hours and evenings and are usually given by internationally renowned tutors. The exhibitions include our major judged national quilt exhibition and a number of smaller exhibitions of quilts, including exhibitions of overseas quilts, and quilt challenges. We run a Merchants’ Mall where 30 or so quilt related shops and merchants promote and sell their latest merchandise. Other activities include sponsors’ and tutors’ evenings, awards and opening ceremonies, formal dinner for 300 or more participants and a finale evening. Queenstown is a great destination. We have activities for all the family and a huge range accommodation options to suit any budget. Our airport is serviced by Air New Zealand, Qantas, Jet Star and Pacific Blue with flights from within New Zealand and Australia daily. So plan that trip now. $2 Raffle Wins Top Sewing Machine Thousands of $2 Bernina raffle tickets were sold. There was one winner, Sally Dutton, a network spinal analysis therapist from Paraparaumu Beach. She took home the $4,500 Bernina Auroa 440 Quilter’s Edition sewing machine. The win was entirely justified. Sally learned to sew aged 11 at Raumati School’s manual training classes for girls. She says the machine which can dial up 180 different stitches, does all the work, “practically, beautifully, and is specially adapted for quilt making.” Sally says she will be taking quilting lessons at Kapiti Coast Bernina in Raumati Beach.
