Lecture Timetable for Remarkable Symposium 2011
Tuesday 19th April 12.30pm – 1.15pm Hollis Chatelain. Influences of Africa
Leaving the USA just after college and living most of her adult
life in West Africa has had a major impact on Hollis’s artwork.
During this lecture, using both slides of her work and of her life
in Africa, she leads the audience through a voyage starting with
the discovery of African cloth, and ending with her return to
the U.S. and the making of her African imagery quilts.
Tuesday 19th April 7.30pm – 8.30pm Jane Sassaman. Jane’s Textile Treasures Garden
This is a glimpse into the inspirations and process of designing
fabric. From dreaming, to drawing, colouring and cutting. This
is a colourful journey through the creative process. Jane will
bring many quilts and accessories made with her FreeSpirit
fabrics. Everyone will enjoy seeing “the quilts “in person and
discover how to use big colourful prints to make dramatic
quilts.
Wednesday 20th April 12.30 – 1.15pm Larkin Van Horn. One Thing Leads To Another
This lecture is essentially an overview of the last 10 years of
Larkin’s work, along with the inspirations that nudged her
along the way. It speaks to the idea of finding our own artistic
voice or style. Something every artist wants to find out!!!!!!!!
Thursday 21st April 12.30pm – 1.15 pm Bonnie McCaffery. Inspiration and Development of a Quilt Artist.
Something for everyone from traditional to contemporary with
a wide variety of different techniques.
Thursday 21st April 7.30pm – 8.30pm Gloria Loughman. Share the Journey
Come and be entertained, listening to a humorous account of a
life as a contemporary quilt maker, teacher and author. Learn of
Gloria’s inspiration and the techniques she uses to create her
prize winning quilts. Laugh as you hear about the challenges of
working with students around the world and view beautiful
photos that will inspire you to start creating your own designs.
Friday 22nd April 12.30 – 1.15pm Brenda Henning. How Did I Get Here?
The life and times of Brenda – the accidental quilter, teacher,
and author. Sometimes life throws us a curve ball. This lecture
chronicles Brenda’s progression as an accidental quilter.
Saturday 23rd April 12.30 – 1.15pm Marie Roper. Layers of Inspiration
Marie will give a lecture with slides and textiles demonstrating
how the computer can be an ideal addition to your creative art
media and some ideas for taking the results into textiles. |
