Committee Members
Convenor – Marg Arnott

Marg was central to the formation of the team - our motivator and recruiter. A Queenstown resident of 30 years Marg has previously had a long involvement with running Alpine Skiing events and associated activities in the area. She has also spent many years managing family interests in the finance, accommodation, and hospitality industries. She is a quilter and is very passionate about bringing the National Symposium to Queenstown and making it a truly remarkable experience for all those participating.
Deputy Convenor - Jude Grace-Dillon

Formerly of Millers Flat and a recent arrival to Queenstown, Jude is a mother of four adult offspring. A teacher with several years experience with students with behavioural and learning needs Jude has retained her interest in education through relief teaching and her role on the Board of Trustees of the Southern Regional Health School. An avid patchworker and quilter of five years, Jude is a member of the Alexandra Patchwork Group and the Queenstown Patchworkers & Quilters.
Treasurer - Gloria McKeich

Retirement has provided Gloria with the opportunity to pursue other interests. She successfully ran a souvenir and jewellery retail business for many years in Queenstown. In another Treasurer role she has been involved in the recent redevelopment and furnishing of the Wakatipu Senior Citizens. Currently she is a member of the Queenstown Patchwork and Quilters and the local Altrusa group
Tutors' Convenor – Jean Steel

A retired primary school teacher, Jean now shares farm life with her husband, son & daughter-in-law, 25km inland from Balclutha in South Otago. With a life-long passion for sewing and textiles, Jean belongs to Xtreme Images, a group whose aim is to promote textiles throughout New Zealand and to show case their own work. Developing into art textiles, incorporating digital photography is a new challenge to Jean’s experiences.
Minutes Secretary– Elaine Kirkland

Merchants’ Mall Convenor – Roz Read

Roz has recently moved to Wanaka in Central Otago after having spent 19 years a family farming partnership in Southland. Having worked in the retail industry for 20 plus years the role of Merchants’ Hall just seemed to fall her way. She grew up in a household that was surrounded with material, threads, beads and feathers as her mother was a milliner who worked from home. Her sister owns Mission Hall Quilts in Ireland and although Roz only found patchwork and quilting recently it’s a new passion for her. To give a quilt as a gift gives as much pleasure in the giving as the receiving.
Catering and Entertainment Convenor – Shona Bain

Recently moved to Galloway near Alexandra, Shona is a trained Home Science teacher with a strong background in foods and textiles. A wife and mother of three adult children Shona has been responsible for setting up two patch work groups in her former local area, as well as running a successful quilting group for her students during the lunch hour at school. Having a strong educational background in the secondary sector, her responsibilities have included catering for groups both formally and informally. Her passion is quilting using free motion techniques for construction and embellishment
Exhibitions Convenor - Alison Naylor

Alison has been quilting since 1984 and has not missed a National Symposium since!
She was a member of the committee which ran the successful 1999 Symposium with the special responsibilities of Venues, Exhibitions and Transport.
Since retiring from teaching and the school library, Alison has been able to focus on her passion for recording family stories using textiles as her medium.
