REGISTRATION DAY MONDAY 18TH APRIL 2011
Our registration Office will be set up in the Queenstown Primary School Hall and will be open from 12 noon to 5.30pm. After this you can register at the Symposium Office in the Queenstown Primary School Administration block

SYMPOSIUM OFFICE
The Symposium Office will be situated in the Queenstown Primary School Administration Block and it will be well signposted. The office will be open from 8.00am to 5.00pm daily Tuesday 19th April to Saturday 23rd April. There will also be a notice board at the Symposium Office for notices, class vacancies and for participants use.

WELCOME BAG
This will be handed out at Registration and will include a mug, a badge, a map and other surprises.

HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR CLASSES
Classes will be held over five days from Tuesday 19 April to Saturday 23 April 2011.
Class times each day will be:
Morning 9.00am – 12 noon
Afternoon 1.30pm – 4.30pm
Rooms allocated for classes will be open at 8.00am each day for setting up.
If your class requires a sewing machine and you wish to take one with you, please ensure that it is clean, oiled and in good working order (preferably recently serviced). Also bring your instruction manual, extra bobbins, tool kit, accessories, spare needles, any special sewing machine feet required for the class, an extension cord and multi box (named). All classes will need a regular sewing kit, even if not listed in the requirements. Unless specified, all fabric requirements are based on the full width of the fabric (40").
Needs lists will be sent out with class confirmations and will also be available on the Symposium website.

ACCESS TO CLASSROOMS
If you have a mobility concern please indicate this on your registration form. We will endeavour to have your classes in accessible rooms. There is lift access in the Robertson Block at Wakatipu High School that allows access. All other classrooms are on the ground floor.

ANGELS
An angel will be allocated to each classroom to assist the tutor and participants. Please consider volunteering to be an Angel for a day. There will be provision for this on the registration form if you are interested. Angel briefing will be 8.15 to 8.30 Tuesday to Saturday.

CATERING
Lunches, morning and afternoon teas are provided for participants enrolled in full day classes. Half day classes include morning tea or afternoon tea as appropriate. We will cater for standard, gluten free and vegetarian needs – please indicate these on the Registration Form. If your dietary requirements fall outside of what our caterer can provide, you will need to make your own arrangements.

COMPLAINTS
Although we hope it will not be necessary, we have set up an arbitration system (including an Arbitration Panel) to deal with any serious complaints from participants or tutors. We have done this in order to ensure Symposium runs smoothly. If a tutor’s class description and/or needs list is markedly different from that described, or if you have serious difficulty with the tutor’s presentation or teaching of a class, you should, in the first instance, raise the issue with the tutor concerned. If the problem cannot be resolved you should make a complaint, IN WRITING, to the Remarkable Symposium 2011 Committee within 24 hours of the unacceptable incident occurring. If at least 25% of those enrolled in the class make such a written complaint the Arbitration Committee will be convened to deal with the issue. Similarly, a tutor has the right to complain, IN WRITING, about any participant whose disruptive behaviour prevents, or hinders, the delivery of the class. The Arbitration Panel will also be convened in this instance.

DYE CLASSES - CAUTION
The dye classes will require the use of chemicals. Although these are safe when handled correctly, people with allergies or depressed immune systems need to consider the risk of handling these before registering for the class. As a safety precaution for everyone, participants must bring along sturdy gloves and understand that anyone making a dye solution from powered dye must wear a mask.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
Should a continuous bell ring, please follow the emergency procedures posted in the area where you are. Please make yourself familiar with these at the beginning of each day or when you are going into a new area of the venues.

INSURANCE
It is the responsibility of participants to ensure that they have adequate insurance cover for all their personal property and equipment.

IRONS
Irons will be available for use in classes. The amount of power available to each room has been assessed. This determines the number of irons available to be used in each classroom without detriment to the power supply of each school. No personal irons may be used anywhere in the schools.

MOBILE PHONES
Please be considerate of those around you. Please ensure that your mobile phone is turned off during classes, lectures and all events.

SCISSOR SHARPENING
A mobile scissor sharpener will be on site during Symposium.

SECURITY AND OVERNIGHT SEWING MACHINE STORAGE
There will be security patrols at both Queenstown Primary School and Wakatipu High School overnight. An overnight secure storage will be available at each school for one sewing machine and one bag per registrant. For your machine and bag to be accepted, you will need to label each item with your registration number in characters 3" high, before it can be accepted. We suggest that you do this before leaving home if you plan to take advantage of this service.

UFO ROOM
This is a half-day session offered in the morning and afternoon of each day of Symposium at a cost of $12 per person. The room will be set up ready for sewing complete with iron and ironing board. Bring along your unfinished projects and work on them alongside other quilters. Pre-booking (by selecting it as a class) is essential if you want to use this space. Sewing machines may be hired for use in this room in the same way as for any other workshop. Bring everything you need to work on your chosen project.

CAFE
We plan to have cafe and coffee facilities available at Wakatipu High School and Queenstown Primary School.

MASSAGE
Southland Institute of Technology students will provide massages during Symposium for a minimal charge.

MEDICAL SERVICES
First Aid personnel will be available on both school campuses for the main part of each day.
